In August, the Algorand Foundation invited the community to participate in a question and answer session on Reddit. Below is a summary of what was discussed.
Here’s the rundown of the August 26 AMA. Panel was Marc Vanlerberghe (CSMO), John Jannotti (SVP Protocol Engineering), Joseph Cecala (Product Marketing), William Beaumont (CPO), and Fred Estante (DeFi/Infrastructure).
Agentic commerce / x402 was the biggest theme. Marc said the x402 global competition has drawn 1,000+ developers and 2,000+ endpoints in 30 days, with three dominant use-case categories emerging: micro-tools for agents (document comparison, hashing, IPFS storage), market data for trading agents, and pay-per-use LLM inference. He also highlighted a partnership with Sabre, the travel tech provider, to expose their APIs on a pay-per-use basis for building travel agents.
AC2 — Will explained it’s deliberately blockchain-agnostic because agentic trust is a bigger problem than web3, and the strategy is to “go where the users are.” The bet is that agentic payments are a natural crypto fit and Algorand competes well on technical merit. He called out a neat detail in the reference implementation: if you hold only ALGO but an x402 endpoint wants USDC, the wallet auto-injects a swap in an atomic transaction group. One commenter pushed back that x402 has merchants but almost no regular users paying them, asking for a consumer-facing app rather than another spec — that thread got replies but they weren’t captured in the visible text.
Post-quantum accounts got several questions. Key points from Will and Marc: you can’t convert an existing account to PQ directly (they’re separate on-chain accounts with different keys, though one 25-word phrase can back both), but you can rekey your current account to a new PQ account and immediately inherit its Falcon-based security — no need to move funds. Rekeying between PQ and Ledger works both ways, and Will used a lock-and-key analogy: Falcon secures the lock on the door, but Ledger-style hardware protects the keys themselves; ideal state is Ledger adding Falcon support.
Project King Safety / Rocca — Marc said the King Safety paper went to the EAC at the end of July and conversations on next steps are active. Will described Rocca as white-label wallet building blocks, already core to Pera 7 and the AC2 wallet, with more integrations being explored.
Protocol economics — John gave a thoughtful answer on why p2p relay nodes can’t easily be incentivized in-protocol: the protocol can’t “see” or agree on infrastructure work (even block proposers only get paid when their block wins), so the team’s approach is making nodes cheaper instead — vote compression already shipped, block compression for archival nodes is in the pipeline.
HesabPay — Marc said over 1 million people in Afghanistan have used Algorand rails for everyday payments, noted UN orgs will never commit exclusively to one chain, and flagged Syria as the next growth market with pilots complete and scale-up expected in coming months.
Narrative strategy — Joseph framed post-quantum security as the umbrella narrative, positioning Algorand as the backbone for companies preparing for “Q day.”
Notably unanswered (at least in this thread): the repeated CCTP/USDC liquidity questions (supply down to ~$38–39M, a sore point commenters called out as being dodged again), the Staci Warden leadership-transition questions, the stalled Midas mTBILL and Quantoz launches, and the sharp question about x402 micropayment economics if ALGO ever appreciates significantly.
